On my TiVo

On my TiVo a Television Shows bag by Sam Pullara on Bagcheck

My TiVo watches it all and then I pick and choose what I really want to watch. My TV tastes are primarily in the comedy's and crime dramas. If you liked Seinfeld, X-Files and the original CSI you probably like what I like.

NCIS

NCIS is still the best crime show as far as I can tell. It is funny, there is good chemistry within the cast, and the crimes themselves are diverse and interesting. Plus, a friend of mine is in NCIS and his boss has consulted on the show, so that adds a little bit of reality to it that makes it more interesting for me.

Bones

Bones is a smart, sciency forensic show with an interesting main character. Most of the action takes place in the lab with some forays to the field. The inter-personal relationship stuff is actually pretty good relative to other shows of this type.

Criminal Minds

By far the most serious of the crime shows, this one really gets into the nitty gritty of the serial killer profile.

Fringe

Fringe satisfies my urge to watch X-files over and over again. Interesting characters and now a really nice plot arc that I think the writers stumbled upon mid-series.

Community

If you have ever watched The Soup you already know that the main actor in this show is pretty funny. Who you haven't seen though is one of the co-stars, Danny Pudi. The guy is brilliant with perfect timing and works great with the material. The writing is consistently smart every week and they can make the most unbelievable situations just believable enough. Also, Chevy Chase is on this show!

Pawn Stars

If you liked Antique Roadshow, you will likely love Pawn Stars. Didn't you ever want them to just buy the thing if they thought it was so cool or worth so much? They do on this show, though you don't get retail prices.

The Big Game

By far the best poker show on TV right now. Hilariously, because it drives so much traffic to their site, Pokerstars is actually broadcasting it as an paid advertisement. You can watch the shows online as well so you don't need a Tivo to record it in the middle of the night. The setup is great, a cash game between pros with one amateur staked $100k in the mix.

30 Rock

Behind the scenes of Saturday Night Live except with amazing writing and high production values. Tina Fey rules.

The Office

I've also watched the BBC version. I like them both but I think the US one is a little lighter and less cynical. That's what she said.

Mythbusters

A fun show that goes to great lengths to prove or disprove various myth's that people believe. If you haven't seen it I am very jealous as then you can watch all the episodes!

Modern Family
Currently on ABC, season 2
Imagine Seinfeld crossed with Married with Children. It is the family comedy about nothing.

CSI New York

I record all 3 of the CSI shows but this is the only one left that feels fresh to me. After losing some of the major cast of Las Vegas and Miami always being mostly about girls in bikinis this one continues on to be the grittiest with the best acting.

Seinfeld - The Complete Series

I've seen them all but now it is being rebroadcast in HD so I watch one every once-in-a-while anyway. Apparently the original show was filmed rather than video taped so they were able to remaster it to HD. Now you can read everything in the background and from time to time see stuff that was supposed to be out of frame.

Chuck

This is a very quirky show. We absolutely loved the first season. With each following season I can feel the premise wearing a bit thin but it is still something we try and watch every week.

The Soup

If you like the insane parts of reality shows but not wasting your time watching all of them, you can get a quick view of the highlights with commentary from Joe McHale on The Soup. His work on Community is also one of our favorites.
